vintage football sign indeed (NO reproduction here!)....it measures approximately
17" x 11"
, and features a fine image of the College Football Hall of Fame coach
Slip Madigan
. This football sign trumpets a football game between little
Saint Mary's College
of California
versus the east coast's powerful
Fordham University Rams
, billed as the
"Fordham Football Tour"
. Madigan coached St. Mary's from 1921-39, so the offered sign originates to that era. <>

Slip Madigan
played football for the
University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish
under coaching icon
Knute Rockne
. After his playing days, Madigan took over a floundering football program at
Saint Mary''s College
in
Moraga, California
in 1921. By 1927, the Saint Mary's
Galloping Gaels
developed into one of the strongest football programs on the West Coast. Though the school's enrollment seldom exceeded five hundred, Saint Mary's became a nationally known college football powerhouse. The Gaels also were known for their "flashy" uniforms as well! I'm most certain that there are not many of these San Francisco Chronicle signs that have survived, so please
don't miss this one!!

Condition:
there are very light creases in all four corners, but they do not detract. The cardboard has toned with age, giving it a nice cream color. The blue and red text and graphics remain strong! All four corners exhibits varying degrees of wear from previous display in a newspaper vending box decades ago! As you can see, this vintage football sign
