The Imperial Porcelain Factory founded in 1744 in St. Petersburg and became the first porcelain enterprise in Russia and the third in Europe. Its history is inseparably linked with history of Russia. Its production of art pieces of Russian porcelain created by top-class artists such as Malevich and Kandinski is presented in collections of the largest museums of the world for nearly three hundred years, being an embodiment of beauty, elegance and a delicate taste.
The gold and blue net pattern used in this set was especially popular in Leningrad USSR (former name of current St. Petersburg, Russia) after the WWII as it was inspired by the window panes taped up in anticipation of bombing crossing with signal spotlights during the Nazis siege of Leningrad at the time of German Invasion of the USSR.
