    Mieszko I
    (930 - 992), 1st Christian ruler of Poland, united all tribes living roughly within the territory of today's Poland.  Father of Boleslaw Chrobry - the 1st king of Poland, Gunhild of Wenden - the Queen of Denmark and Sigrid the Haughty - Scandinavian Queen. He married Czech Princess Dobrawa, after he had been baptised. He gave the beginning of the Piast Royal Dynasty.
    We may call him the "founding father" of Poland.

    Wladyslaw II Jagiello
    (1352 - 1434), was the Grand Duke of Lithuania, then the King of Poland by marriage with Polish Queen Jadwiga and created the 1st European Union: Polish-Lithuanian. It also gave the beginning of Jagielonian Royal Dynasty (the most successful in Polish history). With his reign Poland's Golden Age began, when the Commonwealth became one of the largest, strongest and wealthiest kingdoms of Europe. It lasted until mid 17th century. Wladyslaw Jagiello is famous for his defeating Teutonic Knights in the Battle of Grunwald  in 1410.

    (1626 - 1696), military genius, who is the most famous for the Battle of Vienna, which took place on 11/12 September 1683. When he led the allied European armies with his legendary Winged Hussars to enormously defeat the Turkish and turned the Ottoman Tide, saving Christian Europe from seemingly inevitable Islamic conquest. Sobieski attack was the largest cavalry charge in history. For the next 300 years Islam would be overshadowed by the growth of the Western Christian societies.
    The banknotes 200 PLN and 500 PLN are considered the ones of the most counterfeit-proof banknotes in the world.
