Lexi Belle
&
Alanah Rae
— Screen-Worn Superhero Parody Costume
from
Supergirl ___
(2011) &
Superheroine 3D
(2011).
This classic 1984-style cosplay
Supergirl
costume was custom-modified and uniquely worn by not one, but two of the biggest names in adult-themed productions of the last decade, during production & promotion of two separate feature-length superhero parody films. It was worn by actress
Lexi Belle
as character
Supergirl
in the 2011 3D interactive parody
Superheroine 3D
(which was also released in a regular 2D DVD format). It was also worn by
Alanah Rae
in the same year as the same character, during a promotional photoshoot for the separate release
Supergirl ___
, which was produced by the same production company under the same director, Robert Black. Trailers for the films can be seen on YouTube and elsewhere. Subsequently, to piggyback on the release of Zack Snyder's
Batman v. Superman
, the Alanah Rae film was repackaged with the company's
Batgirl
parody and re-released as a 2-film set with a new cover, under the title
Batgirl v. Supergirl
. The
Batgirl
costume screen-worn by
Sunny Lane
in that film, is currently available in one of my other auction listings.
Interestingly, early on, at the time when these & similar adult-oriented parody films were first being made, big "mainstream" geek-oriented pop culture sites covered their production & release much the same way they covered new big-studio Marvel & DC superhero films--and though many of these articles have since been scrubbed from sites like Bleeding Cool, links to them can still often be found (& viewed via the Wayback Machine). Some other mainstream film & comics websites still haven't removed this early parody coverage; for example, a 2011 Major Spoilers article on
Superheroine 3D
quips, "
What will be most interesting to see is how many people comment about the objectification of women, who will complain about their favorite characters in a...parody, and who is going to complain that [the studio] is mixing Marvel and DC characters in the same film."
The bodysuit is the central element to this costume, featuring a custom-made chest glyph sewn overtop the typical House-of-El "S" emblem. Because that glyph was made by hand and sewn on in a distinctly offcenter position, we can screen-match this as the bodysuit worn by
Lexi Belle
for her entire scene as
Supergirl
, and by
Alanah Rae
in a few pictures during her promotional photoshoot. While it fits Lexi very well, Alanah is far more curvaceous--so it fit her much too tightly, hiding her curves behind flat slopes, and was replaced with a larger bodysuit (which had enough give to conform to her curves) for the remainder of her promo photoshoot and for her film. The other bodysuit's hand-applied chest glyph had a different centering & sat much higher toward Alanah's neckline, and the blue of that second bodysuit was slightly different from this darker one worn by both Alanah and Lexi. The skirt with attached belt is also a hand-modified item, though I haven't attempted detailed screen-matching to that worn by either or both actresses, since the bodysuit is a clear match as the one worn by both. It has a simple, wide velcro closure in back, to adjust to different waist sizes and body types. The boots likewise may have been worn by either actress or by both; I haven't attempted any detailed screen-matching given the bodysuit's obvious use. My 3rd image above though, does show a picture I took of these boots (in front of the included cape) next to a MajorSpoilers-article-published on-set photo (on the right) taken during production of
Supergirl ___
, which shows boots on set which have perfectly-matching creases (though the boots today have more creases & more wear). That MajorSpoilers set photo from 2011 also has enough detail to show that loose yellow threads at several corners of the emblem, match those in the photos I recently took of the included bodysuit. Both the skirt and the boots are fully-consistent with those seen onscreen/in promo photos. The cape included here, though, is
not
original to this costume--it was worn by the actor playing
Thor
in different comic parody films by the same production company, and was accidentally included with this costume instead of the original cape which belonged with it. Given the high level of re-use of these costumes across multiple parody films, this unfortunate mix-up still leaves the costume relatively complete compared to others I've seen from the same era, and nonetheless provides a cape suitable enough to complete the costume for display purposes (with a lot of tucking or folding, since this full-sized
Thor
cape is much larger than
Supergirl
's).
This costume was part of a full liquidation of the production company's wardrobe stock 6+ years ago, with most of the costumes ending up at a well-known California retail store which still sells studio-surplus items, before making their way to eBay through resellers. I purchased this item from one of those resellers, and it comes with the COA which they issued at that time. The COA identifies it as having been worn by
Alanah Rae
, but doesn't mention its use by
Lexi Belle
in
Superheroine 3D
, which I identified later by comparison.
Since
Supergirl
costumes worn in big-budget Hollywood films & TV shows generally sell for ,000 and up, this is a rare opportunity to obtain a costume worn in production of two high-profile superhero parody films, at an attainable price.
Lexi Belle
is notable enough to have her own Wikipedia entry, as a Penthouse Pet of the Year and an AVN Hall of Fame inductee, while
Alanah Rae
is widely considered one of the most notable "curvy" actresses of the decade.
The bodysuit is in excellent screen-used condition--with the notable exception that the crotch of the bodysuit has been cleanly cut, completely across, with scissors. All the material is intact--it's just been cut once across, at a slight angle. Just speculation, but given the fact that it was far too tight on
Alanah Rae
, it may have been cut in an attempt to make it better fit during her photoshoot; otherwise, if
Lexi Belle
's use was the more recent of the two, it may have been cut during filming of her scene (but if so, it's not visible being done onscreen; the bodysuit just disappears off her at some point, though skirt and boots remain). This could easily be repaired for display with some sewing, or even augmented with a hook-and-eye closure for easier use; but, I've left it as-is. The skirt with attached belt is in very good screen-used condition, with some minor creasing & wear from use & age. The boots are in good screen-used condition, with moderate creasing & wear from use & age. The cape is in very good to excellent screen-used condition, with minor wear to the velveteen texture.
Note that the images above are for informational purposes only, and no photos or media are included in this sale. You will receive the bodysuit, the skirt with attached belt, the boots, the cape, and the COA.
