Personal Review after more than 500 miles using this helmet:
This is a great Aero Helmet. Beyond all the top technology fitted into this helmet (see Product Details below) it is a beautiful, sexy helmet. Also, due to the tailless design you don't feel self conscious wearing it on a commute but it still turns heads and drives admirative comments which the stunning ChromaPop visor has certainly something to do with.
Visor and Magnets: The magnetic visors are a blast and snap in place beautifully. The magnets are very strong. I have another helmet with integrated visor, and I regret that they did not put a protection around the nose like this Smith helmet has. Still, if not desired, the nose bridge rubber protection is easily removable.
Fit:
The helmet is a tight fit as it wraps around your skull and is narrower at the ear level. So much as I have to slightly pry it open with my
thumbs to fit in. Once there it fits like a shell. I mention that because it is not a city helmet you will take in and out all the time. Anyway I find the helmet very comfortable.
Glasses: I wear glasses, have a prominent nose bridge and I have no problem fitting the glasses under the helmet. Just remove the visor before sliding in the helmet in or put the glasses after you fit the helmet. I find sliding them in after fitting the helmet a bit more convenient.
Whistling & Wind Noise: There are some talks that this helmet creates some wistling and wind noises. This is true in some very specific position when I turn my head or drop it. In a normal position the helmet is silent. As the helmet covers your ear canal it does affect how street's sounds reach you which is true to all helmets covering your ears. I find that I hear engine noise at a higher level when a car is far away being behind me or in front. I did not find this a problem.
Strap: I loooove the strap of this helmet. The best I ever experienced. First it has a fixed below ear junction. No messing around with uneven straps and the pre-set un-adjustable position is just perfect. Second, the strap tightening under the chin is so easy. You just pull on it. You don't have to pull and push and slide the strap or whatever. Third it does not slide out of position. You do not have to retighten it every so often. Why other helmets do not have straps working like this one? I don't know...
Temperature Control: I have not used this helmet in the summer yet. Read the review (see below) from Aero Geeks for that. However, as I have been using it only so far in the Chicago winter (brrrr...) I was surprised of the ventilation it provides. I had to tape the front vents as my skull, despite wearing a ski hood, was too cold! I did not expect that such small vents would generate so much air flow.
Photo 8 shows the helmet, albeit of a different color, in action. I included this photo for you to see the profile, but also how the helmet fits. When I wear it, it covers about 3/4 of my ears.
Anyway, this is Great Stuff!
And did I say it is beautiful? Oh yes i did...
Cut and paste to read a review of the helmet which is totally consistent with my experience of it: http://aerogeeks.com/2017/07/25/smith-podium-tt-review/
