Very Rare Star Worn one-of-a kind Vintage Howard Greer Hollywood Hand Sewn Silk Beaded Bias Cut Dress W/TrainThis very rare one-of -kind 1920’s dress was designed by Howard Greer BEFORE he left the studios and opened up his own couture shop in Hollywood in 1927.
It was acquired along with several other gowns from a studio sale about 15 years ago. Other Howard Greer gowns have been sold from this collection, one of which is in a museum but this one was kept in my private collection until now. It bears a very rare “Greer Hollywood” label prior to his signature Beverly Hills white label.
This hand sewn sleeveless bias cut empire waist silk gown has a beaded, embroidered and weaved netted bodice with gold threading. The bottom has a chocolate brown quilted pillow like fabric with gold threading. It has underarm gusset inserts, bra strap holders and a dual weighted front with a tie back closure and back train. It is extra long super model in length.
This is truly an amazing and rare piece from Howard Greer’s early designs. The bodice does need some TLC as the silk is torn on the shoulders and underarm and many of the beads are missing. There is evidence inside that studio repairs were previously made.
Some stars Howard Greer designed for include but are not limited to:
Mary Pickford, Pola Negri, Anna Q. Nillson, Katherine Hepburn, Irene Dunne, Ingrid Bergman, Jane Russell, Sylvia Sydney
