Description
Here’s a rare Rockingham glaze lions paw window stop dating to the 1800s.These were used as both window stops to prop open windows to let in fresh air and as furniture rests to raise furniture legs off floors to aid in sweeping and mopping under furniture.
There were many different forms of window stops made and this one is rare in the form of a lion’s paw.
This window stop is crisply molded with the Rockingham glaze highlighting every detail.
Because of the heavy use they got, they are almost always damaged.
This window stop is in original mint condition and measures 3 ½” high and 3 ¾” in width.
Window stops were molded and the inside is always hollow to make it easier to fire these in a kiln.
This is one of the few window stops glazed on the inside of the base.
Window stops are rare examples of early American and English pottery and are seldom found in this fine original condition.
