Description

Splendid U.S. postal set depicting 15 iconic Shipping Vessels:
(1).  Fleet of Columbus.
(2). Concord-Ship to bring the first immigrants from Germany in 1683.
(3). HMS Endeavour-Capt. James Cook's discover Ship that traveled around the world including Alaska and Sandwich Islands (now Hawaii).
(4). USS Frigate Constitution (Old Ironsides)-commissioned by President Washington for the new U. S. Navy and the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat.
(5). The "Savannah"-the first steam-propelled vessel to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1819.
(6). USS Yorktown in World War II.
(7). USS Constellation-the sloop-of-war and last sail-only warship of the U.S. Navy in 1854.
(8). The Charles W. Morgan-American built in 1841 and now the oldest surviving merchant vessel and only surviving wooden whaling ship.
(9). The USS Monitor and Merrimack (CSS Virginia)-the Battle of Ironclads, the most important naval battle in the Civil War and considered the first modern Naval ships.  And
(10).'The Virginia of Sagadahock"-the First Trade Ship built in 1607 in America to participate in world commerce.
(11) The Mayflower bringing the Pilgrims to America.
(12). The Clermont, Robert Fulton's Steamboat, the  world's first commercially successful steamboat.
(13) The USS Maine, the catalyst for the 1898 War again Spain.
(14) USCG's L.C.T. Boat.  And
(15) The Liberty Ship for the Merchant Marines.
