    Description

CAP BOMB CARNIVAL CANE COLLECTION SET OF 8, NATIONAL, 4TH OF JULY, SLAM CANE WOW!. Here is a tremendous collection of 8 Cap Bomb Canes from the late 1800's to approx the 1930's. These were known by many names such as carnival canes, walking stick canes, slam guns and bang sticks, there maybe be others that I don't know of. They all used either single caps or roll caps to generate the bang. Place the cap in the bottom and hit it on the ground. Generally these were a kids toys small enough for a large child to play with and large enough for an adult to play with as well. These were also used by carnival barkers to get the attention of fair and carnival goers to get their attention to their pitch and bring them into whatever show or event was there. I will explain all 8.
First there are 3 National Repeating canes. These all have a patent date of 6-29-09, meaning 1909. These have cast iron mechanisms that are in great condition. The mechanisms all look complete. They all have the cover for the roll caps. All the springs work. The wooden rods are in fine condition and they all have their wooden knob handles. They may not be perfectly straight but, very close. They are all around 29 inches long. They may have been used or maybe not. A little surface rust and oxidation here and there. I would think the would work if need be.
Next are 3 carnival 4th of July canes. These have red, white and blue paper that covers the wooden rod. 2 of the are made by Universal Fireworks Co. These are in nice condition, I doubt they were ever used. Wood is a little warped. Metal cap ends are nice with light wear, just a little rust here and there, have both knob handles. The last one is made by Universal Playthings Inc. Basically the same as the other two. Real clean metal cap end, has the wooden handle. The paper is a little dirty. These are about 25 inches long.
Lastly are two older ones in my opinion maybe 1890's to early 1900's. These are walking cap bomb sticks or slam guns. These are the largest ones at 32.5 inches long. They look to be made by different manufacturers but, I see no names. These have a heavy cast iron ball on each, it is designed to slip back to be able to insert the caps. Once the cap is installed you slam it to the ground for the boom, hence the name slam gun. The handles are fine but, one is more warped than the other, both have their wooden knob handles.
This is a great collection of not often seen cap bomb canes in one sale. I wish I could sell some of my roll cap collection but Ebay wants us all safe. Please check out my other vintage cap bombs, Space Flyers and vintage toys. Please ask any question that you may have. Thank you, Dave
