    Description

I am offering a pair of these 100% metal slave foot shackles.  Used in Ben Hur 1925 and 1959 movies and other Roman movies with slaves in it like the 1960 Spartacus etc.  These are Roman 100% metal slave shackles that was sold in the 1970 MGM auction by the David Weisz Auctioneers Company.   MGM made numerous 'Sword and Sandal' movies from 1925 to the 1960's and this heavy duty metal slave shackles was used in one or more of them.  Based on my background in collecting and studying old 'Sword and Sandal' movie props, I am inclined to think it is a very early piece and could have been used in the 1925 Ben Hur film.  Back in the Silent Movie era, movie props were all metal and not fiberglass, plastic, rubber or hard foam.  Some movie props even crossed the Atlantic from Europe to America like those used at Pinewood Studios in England and then later used in American Studios.  Over a hundred 'Sword and Sandal' movies were made in the silent movie era but over 80% of them are now lost.
Movie Studios back in the day basically owned a movie star by contract but these same movie stars could be loaned out for a price to another studio.  The same is true with movie props as I have seen several movie props of an exact design being used by various Studios.  Most likely they were either rented or sold to the other Studio but this brings up the possibility that a particular movie prop could have been in any of the hundred plus 'Sword and Sandal' films starting from the 1920's up to 1970.
Hunting for these movie props in these epic films is time consuming but yet very fun and very rewarding.  None of the 1970 MGM movie props that were auctioned off had any indication from which film they came from.  All descriptions were as short, simple and generic as possible.  So I have a deal that I am willing to make anyone of this one particular item.  I actually have two of these large and heavy Roman shackles.  If you can find them being used in a scene, I will sell you my second shackle at half price after you have purchased the first one.
" I have about 200 new custom made and designed items I will put up for sale, as well as my sword and sandal movie prop collection, my military miniature figure collection painted by Russian masters, my World War II collection, my ancient coin and ancient military artifact collection and other various military "militaria" items".
These will all be listed under the Terry Nix Collection III in the near future, so please keep checking back or you will miss that one of a kind item.
