    Description

Antique PEORIA POTTERY Stoneware Crock Canning Jar!
Peoria Pottery Company opened in 1864 and produced utilitarian stoneware (fruit & canning jars, butter pots, churns, pitchers, bowls, crocks & jugs) for 38 years. The principal owner was Lydia Moss Bradley, a wealthy local banker president, philanthropist and the founder of Bradley University.
The salt-glazed stoneware was hand-turned and has a distinctive dark Albany-like slipped glaze that often attained a high sheen and a dark pumpkin color-the “Peoria Glaze.”
