Description
This listing is for an Old Vintage 19th Century American Salt Glaze Stoneware Pottery Large 11.25" Tall Handled Jug. It was made by Hamilton and Jones of Greensboro, Pennsylvania. It is not numbered, but I believe it is a 1 Gallon size. It has a Gray body with Cobalt Blue Stenciled Decoration reading "HAMILTON JONES GREENSBORO P.A." (photo 5). I believe it dates to the 1870s.It is in great original antique condition. No chips, cracks, hairlines, repairs or any damage done after the making. But there is a factory kiln mark right in the center of the stencil (photo 11). It is slightly dimpled here as well. Also has kiln marks around top and one on handle (see photos). I have seen these on several other Hamilton Jones jugs, so they seem pretty common. No other issues that I can find. Very clean with no notable stains!
(Bright white spots are glare / lighting from photos, not damage or actually on the item). Please view the photos carefully as they are my main description.
It is big, thick, and heavy weighing over 5.5 lbs before packing and will be securely packaged and double boxed.
*(I have a UPS shipping option listed along with USPS. UPS is usually the cheapest for big and heavy packages. So if the shipping price seems too high just send me your zip code and I will take a look).
It measures 11 5/16" tall, 7 1/4" at widest part of body, about 1 1/2" across top rim with a 7/8" opening, and 5 3/4" at the base.
Please feel free to Email with any questions and be sure to check out my other glassware, pottery, and antique items. Thanks!
