    Description

Excellent original condition.  There is a small imperfection on the saucer edge that has original gilding in it. It is a glaze pop or nick that was corrected at the factory.  You can see it in photo #3.
This porcelain breakfast cup and saucer was produced in England by an unknown manufacturer around 1830. There are painted inventory numbers 3709 on the bottom.  It might be from the Rockingham factory.  It has a heraldic symbol of a “kingfisher bird” with a fish in its beak.  The saucer has a diameter of 6 1/4 inches.  The cup is 3 1/4 inches tall with a diameter of 3 5/8 inches.  It is made of fine, white bone china.  The border is colored magenta, or reddish purple.  Bands of tiny, colorful flowers encircle the well of the saucer and lower portion of the cup.  They are vivid in color and hand painted.  Intricate panels of gilding enhance the border.  The heraldic family crest is an indication that this cup and saucer was produced for a noble family.  A note regarding the “Kingfisher” symbol; the kingfisher is a symbol of peace and prosperity.  This bird was a harbinger of smooth seas for sailors.   #C456a
