    Description

This listing is for one 458 SOCOM Modified Case based on a new Starline case. It has been drilled and threaded to match either of the two referenced Hornady O.A.L. Gauges (see image). The neck inside diameter has been expanded to allow the free movement of .458” diameter bullets and the neck outside diameter reduced to allow proper chambering.
I suggest having on hand a 7/16” x 36” wood dowel. My experience has been that the bullet, especially spire points, can and sometimes will stick within the rifling and will not retract with the case. The wood dowel, inserted from the muzzle end, allows the removal of the stuck bullet.
Jacketed bullets tend to have a very consistent diameter throughout their length. Diameters of plated bullets, like the Berry’s flat nose bullet #33701 in the photos, may vary over their length. While the “caliber diameter” is consistent, some of these Berry’s bullets have a slightly larger diameter above the cannelure. That is not a problem for the reloader but it can be for the functioning of the O.A.L. Gauge Modified Case. If you experience some difficulty with plated bullets passing through the Modified Case, manually reduce the diameter of the test bullet above the “caliber diameter” as needed.
