    Description

    1942 Harley-Davidson WLA Flathead
I am actively thinning my collection of motorcycles in preparation for a move to Florida.
Up for sale is a 1942 edition of the HD flathead.  Probably a wartime machine, that the armed forces abandoned in Indonesia
This machine does have some providence, documentation will be provided with bike when collected.
    Known history.
Bike first registered to a German national, possibly connected to the German High commission, in Jakarta, Indonesia, 19 January 1989
Bike then transported to Bonn, Germany by the same German national and given a German title 17 October 1989
Bike was sold in Bonn 1991 and transferred to new owner in Bonn
Bike was purchased by me in Bonn January 2000
I brought it to the US in August 2000 and it has sat in my garage ever since.
    Bike condition.
This bike is a non runner, I did manage to get it to start 18 years ago, but although it ran it insisted in throwing out all of the oil.  Frankly, I gave in.  I would think the engine needs a complete rebuild by someone who is familiar with the engine and its peculiarities.
I should add that the engine is not the original engine (or at least the cases).  Engine number recoded on Jakarta document was 42WLA70825, and is now 42WLA43028
    Frame and forks seems straight.
The tin ware seems to be complete, but is not necessarily the same age.  Rear fender is from a newer model.
I had the tin ware painted (in England) in 2000.
All controls are present, but not necessarily fitted.  Please believe that this is an original war model, left foot clutch, left foot brake, left hand brake, left hand throttle, left hand gear lever.  The only thing left for the right hand is the advance retard control.
The bike it not fully assembled as you can see from the parts in the pictures.
This bike will be sold with a bill of sale only, there is no US title associated with this vehicle, salvage or otherwise.
No warranty of any parts or the bike is offered.
Bike is available for pickup only, Brighton MI 48114.
If a shipping agent is contracted all assistance will be given.
Shipping will not be allowed until a satisfactory monetary transaction has been completed.
