1890's Wood and Son England 'Sylvan' Covered Tureen

Description

Offered for sale is an antique Wood and Son covered tureen. The mark dates 1891 to circa 1907. Pattern is 'Sylvan' as indicated on the mark, the registered design number 55346 dates from 1886. The bowl and lid both are impressed with a registered number 53930, probably the white ware blank pattern number.
There is some loss of gold on the top edge of the bowl, where the lid rests, and a small amount on the ring of gold around the lid. This wear is consistent with age and use. There are some manufacturing flaws to the glaze, most notable in the bottom of the bowl. See photo 9. There is an extra bit of slip on the edge of the lid, but the manufacturer put the gold line over it. A small amount of gold bled into the depression. See photo 10, at arrow. There is also a crack in the base, see noted area in photo 11. It is difficult to photograph, I only saw it as I was inspecting the piece prior to listing.
