Just Like Humans, This Dog Refused To Give Up His Seat on a Plane

A video of a dog sitting “perfectly well” on a plane has gone viral on TikTok.
The clip was posted by @hit_isacu and has amassed 3.4 million views since it was shared on August 31.
A message overlaid on the clip, written in Spanish, reads: “POV [point of view]: Cuando a tu perro rescatado se le suben los humos,” translating to: “When your rescue dogs gets too excited.”
The footage shows a dog sitting up in a passenger seat while a woman is standing in the aisle looking at the pup. The canine remains seated while staring blankly at the floor, where another dog is seen curled up over a blanket.
A caption shared with the post simply reads: “Very demure of Blacky.”
While U.S. carriers must recognize dogs as service animals and allow their transport on flights, the rules for pets are subject to the individual airline’s policy. The Federal Aviation Administration suggests contacting your airline to confirm their pet policy before your travels.
As much as our canine companion in the viral clip may have wanted to travel in the passenger seat, some airlines may require your pet to remain in their pet carrier for the entire flight, notes the FAA.
If an airline allows you to bring your pet into the cabin, the pet container is considered carry-on baggage and it must adhere to certain conditions, such as the following, as outlined by the FAA:
If your airline does not allow pets on board, your pet will need to travel in the cargo hold. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) notes that pets in the cargo hold also travel comfortably.
“Do not worry, cats and dogs actually travel better this way because it is quieter and they will rest in a darkened environment. Despite all the fears about airline pet cargo travel, millions of animals are carried safely every year,” says the IATA.
TikTok users were amused by the dog’s stance on the plane in the viral clip.
“I don’t see anything abnormal here, he is behaving perfectly well,” @alfiethelabby.
User claudiabarboza735 said “blacky like a sir.”
“Blacky tipo : EVERYBODY MAKES MISTAKES,” wrote dennmakeupstudio.
